11.05.07 On this day, November 16...

Sting is one of the busiest musicians around. Take a look back in time to see what he was doing and where he was performing on this day in previous years...
2004: Sting performed at The Point in Dublin, Ireland. Louise Healey of The Irish Independent reported:

Fans of the legendary Sting showed up in thier thousands last night to watch the former Police frontman arrest a sold-out Point Theatre.

When Sting finally came on stage just after 9pm, the atmosphere was electric as the audience erupted.

He delighted the packed two hours with renditions of some of his most famous hits both as a solo artist and from his days with The Police.

Opting to perform most hits, both old and new, in a slow mid-tempo style, Sting opened the show with his latest single, the percussion-heavy 'Send Your Love', and then moved into '80s nostalgia, delighting the crowd with the Police's popular hit 'Synchronicity

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, CBE (born 2 October 1951), universally known by his stage name Sting, is an English musician from Newcastle upon Tyne. Prior to starting his solo career, he was the principal composer, lead singer and bass player of the rock band The Police

Origin of nickname
Sting has stated that he gained his nickname while with the Phoenix Jazzmen. He once performed wearing a black and yellow jersey with hooped stripes that bandleader Gordon Solomon had noted made him look like a bumblebee; thus Sumner became "Sting." He uses Sting almost exclusively, except on official documents. In a press conference filmed in the movie Bring on the Night, he jokingly stated when referred to by a journalist as Gordon, "My children call me Sting, my mother calls me Sting, who is this Gordon character?"

Family background
Do you know...?

Sting's mother was a classically trained pianist who’s teaching resulted in his being offered an advanced piano scholarship. He too trained as a teacher, but jazz and guitar were Sting's real loves, resulting in his ditching his career and moving to London to play professionally. American drummer Stewart Copeland caught his act and persuaded him to try rock. Joined by guitarist Andy Summers, the trio formed the Police in 1977.

Their rock-reggae sound broke through with 'Roxanne', a song about a prostitute later banned by the BBC, which assured its hit status. The single proved so successful that their record company, A&M, rushed to release their first album, 'Outlandos D'Amour'. In quick succession, the band's next albums, 'Regatta De Blanc', 'Zenyatta Mondatta', and 'Ghost in the Machine' were released, with at least one hit single emerging from each. The release, in 1983, of 'Synchronicity' and its monster single, 'Every Breath You Take', secured their place in pop history. After a triumphant world tour, Sting decided he had achieved all he could with the Police, and the band dissolved at the height of its popularity.

Personally I adore Sting and his songs.

Here is one of my favourites.
All for Love
From the Three Musketeers movie soundtrack
Featuring Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting
Words and music by Bryan Adams

When it's love you give
(I'll be a man of good faith.)
Then in love you live.
(I'll make a stand. I won't break.)
I'll be the rock you can build on,
Be there when you're old,
To have and to hold.

When there's love inside
(I swear I'll always be strong.)
Then there's a reason why.
(I'll prove to you we belong.)
I'll be the wal that protects you
From the wind and the rain,
From the hurt and pain.

Let's make it all for one and all for love.
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
The one you need,
'Cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
When there's someone that should know
Then just let your feelings show
And make it all for one and all for love.

When it's love you make
(I'll be the fire in your night.)
Then it's love you take.
(I will defend, I will fight.)
I'll be there when you need me.
When honor's at stake,
This vow I will make:

That it's all for one and all for love.
Let the one be the one you want,
The one you need,
'Cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
When there's someone that should know
Then just let your feelings show
And make it all for one and all for love.

Don't lay our love to rest
'Cause we could stand up to you test.
We got everything and more than we had planned,
More than the rivers that run the land.
We've got it all in our hands.

Now it's all for one and all for love.
(It's all for love.)
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
The one you need,
'Cause when it's all for one it's one for all.
(It's one for all.)
When there's someone that should know
Then just let your feelings show.
When there's someone that you want,
When there's someone that you need
Let's make it all, all for one and all for love.

This is the song I like ...

Angel Eyes
From the Leaving Las Vegas soundtrack (Pangaea)
Lyrics by Earl Brent, music by Matt Dennis

Have you ever had the feeling
That the world's gone and left you behind
Have you ever had the feeling
That you're that close to loosing your mind
You look around each corner
Hoping that she's there
You try to play it cool perhaps
Pretend that you don't care
But it doesn't do a bit of good
You got to seek 'til you find
Or you never unwind
Try to think
That loves not around
Still it's uncomfortably near
My old heart
Ain't gainin' no ground
Because my angel eyes ain't here

Angel eyes
That old devil sent
They glow unbearebly bright
Need I say
That my love's misspent
Misspent with angel eyes tonight

It's for you, Oksushka!

Originally from the album Transition
Later reissued on Chariot Rising
Words and music by Smith and Colton

There's a phone line,
there's ovation
right at the bar at the railroad station
And there's a story,
a kind of fable
All the court at the corner table

On it is a message, been there some time
It starts off, "The coffee tasted so fine."

It says, "One day
this may find you.
These few words may just remind you.В”

"We sat here together just to pass time
and you said how the coffee tasted so fine."

It goes on to
say, "I love you.
If you find this I must hear from you."

It gives a number, but the name
has faded away
All that is left are just the words,
"Maybe someday."

Well, that's the story
and her fable
Never leave alone from a corner table
